When we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live on the inside of us. He indwells us, He empowers us, He fills us, and He transforms us more and more into the image of Christ. But by the Holy Spirit, we also have a responsibility to put to death the deeds of the flesh (Romans 8:13). This is called the mortification of sin. How exactly does mortification take place? How do we put the deeds of the flesh to death?

Life is full of important questions that need to be answered such as: “Who will I marry?” “What will I do for a living?” “Where shall I go to college?” “Should I even go to college?”
Questions like these are important, but what is the most important question of all? If you don’t get the right answer on the most important question, then the answers to many of life’s other questions are difficult to find.
The most important question of all is, “Do you belong to Jesus Christ?” because if you belong to Christ, then you are indwelt by the Spirit of God and you are led by Him.

Romans 8:5-8 ~ Walking in the Spirit ~ Pastor Bill Slabaugh

Romans 8:5-8 explains why the Lord Jesus sent His Holy Spirit as He promised. This is it in a nutshell: The Holy Spirit is the way that Jesus lives His life in us and through us for His Glory. That’s why Jesus sent His Spirit.
This passage of Scripture also answers the question, “What does it mean to walk in the Spirit?” To walk in the Spirit is to live moment by moment in dependency upon Him, sensitive to His voice, and in obedience to Him.
To live any other way is to live in rebellion against God and to cut one’s self off from the blessings of God.

Romans chapter 7 paints a portrait of a struggling Christian who cannot do what he wants to do and he does the very thing that he does not want to do. The apostle Paul shows us that this person has a problem with self. He is self-absorbed and he would say, “It is all about me.” When we are self-absorbed and it’s all about “me,” sin gets the better of us every time. When we try to do it ourselves in our own way and in our own strength, sin wins every time. Paul shows us a better way to live in the Spirit.

Based on Bruce Wilkinson’s comparison of The Three Chairs, this message answers the all-important questions:
“What can we do to ensure that our faith in God abides and flourishes in the next generation?”
“What can we do to ensure that our children will put their confidence in God and will be men and women of faith who will not turn their backs on God?"
As you listen to this message, keep asking yourself, "Which chair do I sit in and what do I have to do to move into the first chair of faith?"

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
In the New Testament, the Christian life is often described as “putting off” and “putting on.” If we are to live as new creations in Jesus Christ, then we need to understand exactly how to put off the old self and put on the new self which has been recreated in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11-14 tells us exactly how to do this.

President John Adams said, "Facts are subborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.
In Romans 6:4-9, we discover four breathtaking facts about Jesus' resurrection from the dead: Christ rose from the dead; Christ will never die again and He reigns triumphant over death; Through faith, we are united to Christ and die with Him; and We shall rise like He rose and live with Him forever.
"He is Risen!" "He is Risen Indeed!"
