1 Corinthians 2:4-11 ~ Seeing It as It Is: The Spiritual Gifts of the Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, and Discernment ~ Pastor Bill Slabaugh
If you have ever driven your car when the fog is thick, you know how dangerous it can be when you can’t see clearly. Maybe you have even had a close call or two. Now God gave certain spiritual gifts to believers in Jesus Christ to help the Church penetrate the fog of the deceit and delusion of the age in which we live; as well as our natural inability to “see it as it is.” To see things as they really are, the Holy Spirit provides the gifts of the Word of Knowledge, the Word of Wisdom, and Discernment.
As “Living Stones” in the building that Jesus builds, each one of us fit perfectly into a particular niche. How do we know where we fit and where we are to serve Christ and His Church? Stated as a formula, this is how we know:
Your Spiritual Gift + Your Area or Sphere of Ministry = Your Niche as a Living Stone
Why is it, when it comes to spiritual matters, that most people just don't get it? Why can't they understand the Bible and the things of God? How do we as believers get the truths of God's Word into our hearts and minds so that we experience Christ?
The prophet Isaiah's prayer was, "Lord, show us the awesome things You do in Your Presence." When God comes down, He makes known His inescapable presence. The cry of Isaiah was answered when Christ came to earth as a man. It will be answered at Jesus's coming again. Isaiah's cry was answered on the Day of Pentecost. And it is also answered in each one of us who are filled with the Spirit of God. We should expect to see God do awesome things when we are aware of His presence.
What is it that motivates us to be determined and deliberate in our Christian lives? What is the prize that God has for us at the end? What causes us to run with endurance?
